“Radio matter cut loose, Destructive Editing’s drift arrested… And what do you know: contour has appeared with no need to fix anything.”
“No ascent? No completion?”
“These fragments refused to disappear. They are not residues, but settled sediments, reassembled and stabilized while still warm. Some upright finality can now be claimed.”
“Yet content always collapses under its own weight, it seems.”
“These fragments refused to disappear. They are not residues, but settled sediments. This is not a manifesto, nor a method, nor a lesson learned, but resistance: some sounds refused to disappear.”
“Scar tissue.”
“What?”
Achievements brings together a series of compositions that first appeared in Destructive Editing, a two-hour piece commissioned by Breakfast Club for Radio Relativa and originally broadcast on May 14th, 2024.
Achievements is detached from Destructive Editing’s structural flow, its material slightly reordered and remastered.
Achievements neither documents the gesture of destructive editing nor elevates it into method: it merely gathers some of its sediments, and raises the question of whether these still carry the memory of their originally violent assemblage.
Achievements’ stability is, ultimately, circumstantial. There is no claim to a definitive result here: only the acknowledgement –faintly ironic, deliberately ambiguous– that something, somewhere in time, deserved to be somehow and somewhat preserved.
