“Introducing David Herradón aka cosmic lithium, the Madrid-based artist pushing the boundaries of live electronic music performance. Absolutely unreal to have him making his UK debut with us in London this August.
David Herradón’s music as cosmic lithium explores possible reconciliations between the spontaneity, variation and development of musical ideas which he had come to know as a child through piano and classical repertoire, and the emphatically repetitive approach to musical form and expression that is usually associated with ‘electronics’.
Onstage, he focuses firstly on expanding, twisting or distorting digital loops from the simple, transparent or intelligible to the complex, irregular or asymmetrical, in such a way that the superimpositions of several layers of loops are impossible to replicate. Improvisation and randomness set the foundations of his live practice, and along with the arbitrary use of cassette tapes (too many to keep track of), allow for the overall form of each performance to emerge differently each time.
More generally, beneath the aesthetic surface of his music, and beyond this aforementioned interest in reconciling two seemingly but still usually contrasted spheres of music, his background in classical repertoire and classical piano prevails, and manifests itself in equally classical compositional concerns: color and harmonic richness, large-scale tonal plans, a holistic conception of musical form, directionality of discourse, expressive and emotional variety.”
London, here we go!
